Guide for Obtaining Your Certificate of No Criminal Record in Tianjin, China

This Guide is about how foreign nationals obtain a Certificate of No Criminal Record in Tianjin, China. The certificate is also known as a police certificate/check/clearance in other countries.

Around the end of 2020, the exit and entry administration in each district of Tianjin became the police agency that issues Certificates of No Criminal Record to foreign residents within the same district. Previously, the applications were all filed with the Division of Exit and Entry Administration of Tianjin Public Security Bureau (PSB). Back in 2017, the responsible police agency was Tianjin Criminal Science & Technology Research Institute. These changes show the efforts made by Tianjin police authorities to improve their dealings with the matter.

  1. Hi, I am a foreigner who studied in Tianjin for 6 months in 2018-2019. I am planning to apply for a Police Clearance Certificate in Tianjin, However, I lost my TRRF.
Is it still possible for me to apply for the criminal record check and the Police Clearance Certificate in Tianjin? Would it suffice to ask my university to include my former address in Tianjin into the letter of good conduct, to compensate for the lack of TRRF? Or, how else can I compensate for the lack of TRRF to make sure my application is valid?
    Thank you 🙂

    • Hi Lena. I understand you no longer keep your TRRF. It should be Okay if you have a letter issued by your university confirming no criminal record and your residence history in Tianjin. It seems to me that police authorities in Tianjin consider TRRF as optional, not mandatory.
